MANILA, Philippines — Authorities recovered about P30 million worth of fossilized giant clams in Cebu last Tuesday, the military said.
The joint operation was led by the 301st Special Mission Group of the Philippine Air Force; and supported by the National Bureau of Investigation; Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources; and the Visayas intelligence community of the PAF, said Air Force public affairs office chief Maj. Aristides Galang.
Two thousand kilos of fossilized clams, estimated to be worth P15,000 per kilo, were confiscated by the authorities after a search warrant.
It also led to the arrest of couple George and Bebing Oldama, Roweno Tajanlangit; and two other male suspects.
Selling, possessing, buying or transporting those considered as endangered species are illegal. /muf
