From LPA, ‘Perla’ strengthens into tropical depression

MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration east of the country has strengthened into a tropical depression on Wednesday morning and was named “Perla.”

Moving west-northwest at 25 kph, it may bring adverse weather conditions over Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao and Babuyan Islands starting Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorm are also expected over the Bicol Region and Quezon province on Thursday.

Small sea craft are warned against potentially rough sea conditions in the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon. —Jhesset O. Enano
