Leyte town poll exec shot dead
TACLOBAN CITY –– An election official of MacArthur town in Leyte province was shot dead by two unidentified assailants on Tuesday afternoon.
Maureen Palejaro, 42, was on board a motorcycle driven by her co-worker when the suspects blocked their way in Barangay Pongon.
One of the suspects then pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times, hitting her in different parts of her body.
The suspects escaped to the nearby town of Abuyog.
Seven empty shells were recovered from the crime scene.
Police Captain Jennifer Medalla, the town’s police chief, said they had yet to establish the motive behind the killing.
Article continues after this advertisementLawyer Felicisimo Embalsado, assistant regional director of the Commission on Elections, called on the police to speed up their investigation of the slay.
Article continues after this advertisement“We are shocked after learning about Palejaro’s death. We call on the police to conduct their investigation and solve it immediately,” he said.
Embalsado said Palejaro was assigned in MacArthur town early this year.
“She was a good worker who delivered her assignments on time,” he said./lzb
