NCRPO chief Sinas to appoint female police chiefs in NCR soon

MANILA, Philippines — Female police officers could lead some police stations in Metro Manila in the future, acting Metro Manila police chief Brig. Gen Debold Sinas said Wednesday.

“I will. I have done that. In Region VII, 15 to 20 percent of our strength is women. Why not utilize them on operational aspect?” Sinas, former Police Regional Office – 7 (PRO-7) chief, told reporters after the NCRPO turnover ceremony in Taguig when asked if he plans to appoint policewomen as police chiefs in the future.

Saying that he has already designated policewomen as police chiefs, Sinas highlighted that female police officers should not be limited to administrative skills.

“Why relegate them to administrative when they could share or do their job for operational … competing their male counterpart. I have tested it, I have proven it and they are also good on investigation and supervising,” Sinas said.

The first all-female police station was established in Siquijor town in Central Visayas during Sinas’ stint as Central Visayas police chief.

In a statement, Sinas said the all-female police station will strongly uphold women empowerment in “promoting public safety and security services at all levels of police units and offices in the region.” /je
