MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to meet and personally congratulate the two Filipino athletes who recently brought home historic gold medals in the field of gymnastics and boxing.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo confirmed that gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo and boxer Nesthy Petecio will call on the President following their twin victories over the weekend.
The courtesy call was initially scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Malacañang.
Yulo won for the Philippines its first gold medal at the 2019 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Germany.
Petecio bagged the gold medal in the featherweight division of the 2019 Aiba Women’s Boxing World Championships in Russia. —Julie M. Aurelio
