Killed by cop

A POLICEMAN assigned at the Talamban police station shot and killed a drunken man who tried to stab him with a gaff last Friday night in barangay Bacayan, Cebu City.

PO2 Rodel Abejuela surrendered to his superiors after he shot dead Jose Legario.

Investigation showed that Legario, who was drunk, suddenly went wild and threatened residents in Villa Leyson, barangay Bacayan.

He was armed with a gaff (tari).

Abejuela was responding to a call for assistance from some Villa Leyson residents after

Legario threatened Joel Valencia and chased Valencia’s sister Thelma Omboy, who tried to pacify them.

Omboy, who witnessed the incident, said that when Abejuela and his companions arrived in a patrol car, he approached Legario and tried to pacify him.

But Legario allegedly attacked the policeman with the gaff. The policeman evaded three of his stabbing attacks. But on the fourth try, Abejuela had no choice but to shoot Legario on the arm.

Despite having a wounded arm, Legario continued his attack on the policeman who shot Legario on the leg.

Although wounded,  Legario continued to attack the policeman, who then shot Legario on the body.

Legario died of his wounds.

Abejuela would be investigated for the killing.

Chef Inspector Romeo Santander, chief of City Intelligence Branch (CIB), said it was standard operating procedure for the police to be placed under investigation in such situation. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon

X’mas shootings

A MAN was shot dead while another is in critical condition at the hospital in separate incidents in Cebu City during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

On Christmas Eve, Rahm Mendez Vicar, 18, was shot by the father of his neighbor, whom Vicar beat up earlier.

Police said Vicar was with with his friends caroling at their neighborhood when he met his neighbor, a minor, whom he later argued and beat up.

The minor went home and told his father, identified only as a certain “Junior,” about the beating.

Junior confronted Vicar and later shot him twice on the chest and on the left eye.

Vicar died on the way to the hospital while Junior fled after the incident. Police are still looking for Junior.

At 2 a.m. on Christmas Day, Roy Wagas, 31, of sitio Mapa, barangay Tagbao, Cebu City was sleeping on a bamboo bench when an unknown gunman approached him and shot him on the head.

The victim’s cousin, Rolly Flores, said Wagas came from a benefit dance a few hours before he was shot.

Wagas was rushed to the hospital where he was still in critical condition as of press time./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon

Stabbed dead

A 64-year-old man stabbed dead the 51-year-old visitor of his brother over a personal grudge.

Police arrested Adolfo Bornea of sitio Datag, barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City after the killing on Sunday.

The victim, Luciano Rosario of sitio Katoan, barangay Maribago didn’t reach the hospital alive.

He suffered a stab wound on the chest.

Investigation showed that Rosario was visiting and having lunch with the suspect’s brother, Tito Bornea, when the suspect suddenly barged in and attacked Rosario.
