Cebuano racing king DGL named Regional Driver of the Year for third straight year

Cebu’s racing legend David G. Lim capped off another successful year in motorsports as he won his third straight Regional Philippine Autocross Championship Regional Driver of the Year award.

The awarding ceremony was held Dec. 20 at the Club Vudu at the Crossroads.

DGL, team captain of the multi-titled DGL Motorsports, put up a consistent showing in the four races held this year to wind up as the overall regional champion for the third consecutive year. He finished with a total of 31 points.

David Lim Jr., 2010 Kartzone series Rookie of the Year, showed he is ready to battle veteran racers as he finished in fourth place with 21 points. He wound up the best in the experienced modified C and open A classes after four legs.

Also, fellow DGL Motorsports racer Alex Yao of Bacolod was named Rookie of the Year for 2011.

DGL cemented his status as the best for the year when he dominated the last leg of the Visayas series held at the Gaisano Bowlingplex parking lot last Nov. 19 and 20.

The Visayas series was also held in Bacolod last July. The three other legs were hosted by Cebu.

DGL Motorsports, supported by Federal Tyres, HKS Super Oil, Cebu MMF Glass and Aluminum, The Coriander and Rico’s Lechon, also had successful stints in Manila this year.

It had a record-setting performance in the Circuit Showdown at the Batangas Racing Circuit last Sept. 3 headed by top tuner Mato Tan and ruled the 4th round of the Luzon Philippine Autocross Championship Series (PACS) the day after behind the efforts of Lim Jr.

The team’s consistent performance for the past three years makes it one of the most famous racing groups in the region today.

Meanwhile, DGL plans to compete in more slalom and autocross races in Manila in 2012.

DGL joined the race Motorsports Club slalom race last Oct. 30 at the SM Sucat with Lim Jr. logging the event’s best time. DGL won most of the categories it joined.
