MANILA, Philippines — Former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr., who is also the founder and chairman emeritus of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), has been put in an intensive care unit (ICU).

In a Twitter post on Monday, PDP-Laban spokesperson Ron Munsayac appealed for prayers from friends and party mates for the “full and speedy recovery” of Pimentel.

“We are humbly asking our friends and party mates in the @PDPLABAN to pray for the full & speedy recovery of our founder and Chairman Emeritus Tatay Aquilino ‘Nene’ Pimentel, Jr. who is currently in the ICU,” Munsayac said.

There are no further details yet on Pimentel’s condition and the hospital where he was confined.

In a separate statement, the family of Pimentel, who also asked for prayers, said he was “very ill and currently under treatment.”

“Doctors and hospital staff are doing their best to help him. We ardently ask that you join us in prayer for his full and complete recovery,” the Pimentel family said.
