MANILA, Philippines — Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Saturday ordered an investigation into the recent ambush of a Davao del Norte-based journalist.

Andanar said that his office is “enjoining” authorities in Davao del Norte to “closely investigate” the shooting of broadcaster and public information officer Pat Lucero Pacquiao last Oct. 11.

Pacquiao survived the ambush but sustained injuries on his right shoulder, Radyo Inquirer reported.

“We will closely monitor this development, and we are prepared to give necessary legal assistance,” he added.

The PCOO condemns any act that threatens the well-being of media practitioners simply for doing their job of informing the public,” Andanar said about the ambush.

“Our office is dedicated to creating an environment that fosters press freedom and where the media can work free of harm.”   /muf
