Radioman hurt in Davao del Norte ambush

MANILA, Philippines — A broadcaster was injured Friday morning after a lone suspect aboard a motorcycle peppered his vehicle with bullets in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, police said.

Paterno Lucero Pacquaio, who is also a provincial information officer, was on the way home from his radio program and was onboard a Ford EcoSport when he was attacked at 8:06 a.m., according to police.

The gunman even managed to point his gun at the victim, but Pacquiao accelerated his vehicle to escape a further attack, police added.

Pacquiao was rushed to a hospital for treatment while the gunman was able to flee towards an unknown direction.

Investigators recovered two spent shells, a shell, and a deformed bullet – all believed to have come from a caliber .45 revolver. These will be submitted to the provincial crime laboratory office for trajectory examination, police said.

Police also said they have yet to identify the motive behind the crime. /kga
