MANILA, Philippines — It took presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo four jeepney rides and almost four hours from Marikina City to Malacañang in Manila to finish his commute challenge early Friday morning.
Panelo started his journey at 5:15 a.m. in Marikina City and reached a gate of the Malacañang complex at 8:46 a.m.

Two hours after his commute commenced, Panelo shared with the media another photo of him on his third jeepney ride going to Sta. Mesa, Manila.
He was supposed to ride the LRT-2 from Gilmore Station but decided to board another jeepney after seeing the media waiting for him.
A motorcycle rider, however, offered him a ride from the Malacañang complex gate en route to his office at the New Executive Building.

The Palace official accepted the dare of militant groups to take public transportation on his way to Malacañang to understand the daily ordeals of commuters.
This was after he drew flak for denying Bayan Secretary-General Renato Reyes Jr.’s claim that a “mass transport crisis” is gripping Metro Manila as all of its three railways suffered glitches last week. /kga
