For the fifth time since the category was created in 2011, the Philippine Daily Inquirer was named best business news source at the 28th annual awards of the Economic Journalists’ Association of the Philippines (Ejap) in a tie with the BusinessMirror.
The award was given to the news organization whose reporters garnered the most number of trophies for best coverage of the various business beats, and for best feature story of the year.
Doris Dumlao-Abadilla was named best reporter for her coverage of the capital markets, the Philippine Stock Exchange, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. This marks her 16th Ejap award for various beats and categories since joining the Inquirer in 1997.
Named best reporter in the finance beat was Ben de Vera, who also won a second trophy for best coverage of the macroeconomy. This year’s double wins mark his fifth and sixth trophies, respectively, from the umbrella organization of the country’s business reporters.
Finally, telecommunications and transport beat reporter Miguel Camus was recognized for having the best special feature story last year which tackled the telecommunications industry’s response to connectivity and affordability issues, as well as the entry of the so-called third telco into the scene. It was Camus’ fourth Ejap plum, apart from several recognitions in previous years for being the best dressed reporter during the awards night.
