SAN JOSE CITY — A 20-year-old detainee was killed by a jail custodian after he allegedly attempted to escape on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Investigators said Vincent Morales, a native of Northern Samar and a stay-in construction worker in Barangay Rafael Rueda here, tried to grab the .9mm-caliber pistol of Patrolman Jun Arcangel after a brief chase.
This prompted Arcangel to shoot Morales who died instantly.
Police said Morales underwent inquest proceedings early that day for frustrated murder after reportedly stabbing a sleeping co-worker. Armand Galang/lzb
