Man takes child hostage in Taytay, Rizal

MANILA, Philippines—A man took a child hostage in Taytay, Rizal Monday, police said.

Police Officer 1 John Villalobos of Taytay police said that a knife-wielding suspect took a child hostage at around 6 p.m. at Block 29, Purok 5, Zapanta Street in Lupang Arenda.

He said that police have not determined if the suspect and the child he took hostage were related.

Negotiations were underway but authorities have yet to determine what drove the assailant to take the child hostage, added Villalobos.
