MANILA, Philippines—A pawnshop in Las Piñas City fell prey to still unidentified suspects who carted away P850,000 worth of gadgets, jewelry, and cash on Monday, police said.
Senior Police Officer 1 Jose Avitria said employees of the Le-An Pawnshop located at Unit 3, CAC Building, CAA Road, Pulang Lupa Dos discovered a hole in their vault when they got to work at around 9 a.m.
He said that initial investigation showed that a tunnel was dug, leading to the vault, from the third unit of the building which had been on lease since October to another business.
But the suspects decided to just tear down the walls of the unit they were renting and those of the unit next to the pawnshop when they thought they may have hit a septic tank while digging the tunnel.
According to Avitria, the pawnshop did not have a security guard nor did it use security gadgets.
