MANILA, Philippines — The public can expect colder days ahead as the country transitions to the easterly winds, also known as Amihan.
Vicente Malano, administrator of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said in a statement: “Recent observations and analysis showed that general wind pattern has shifted from southwesterly to easterly.”
This means, Malano said, that the southwest monsoon season “has officially ended.”
“With these developments, the climate of the Philippines is on transition to the northeast monsoon ‘Amihan’ season in the coming days,” Malano said.
Meanwhile, Pagasa is also monitoring Typhoon “Hagibis” which is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Friday.
The typhoon was spotted outside PAR at 2,630 kilometers east of Southern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and a gustiness reaching up to 215 kph.
