MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon “Hagibis” may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday but is unlikely to make landfall, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Monday.

The state weather bureau said the typhoon was spotted outside PAR at 2,630 kilometers east of Southern Luzon. It also said that the weather disturbance was packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 215 kph as it moves west-northwest at the speed of 25 kph.

For now, Pagasa said the country’s weather remains fair, with rain showers possible in the afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorms. /kga
