Police nabs 1 suspect in Manila truck robbery; 3 others still at large

MANILA, Philippines — One of the four suspects in the robbery incident in Tondo, Manila that was caught on camera has been arrested by authorities.

The Manila Police District Special Mayor’s Reaction Team (MPD-SMaRT) identified the suspect as Christopher Dumapi, whose group robbed the passengers of a truck that was trapped in heavy traffic jam along Road 10.

A netizen posted on Facebook a video of the robbery incident that subsequently went viral. A number of citizens then called on the attention of authorities regarding the rampant robbery-hold up cases on truckers, whose vehicles are usually stuck in traffic along Road 10 in Tondo.

MPD-SMaRT members consequently conducted an anti-criminality operation along Mel Lopez Boulevard and located and collared Dumapi.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno presented Dumapi before the media at city hall and warned the suspect’s cohorts to immediately surrender as they are already identified by authorities.

“Sa mga magulang ng mga ito, hawak na po namin ang mga pangalan. Hinahanap na po kayo ng mga alagad ng batas. Hinahanap po kayo. Mas gugustuhin kong buhay na makuha ang mga mahal niyong anak,” Moreno said in a press briefing.

(To the parents of these suspects, we already have their names. Authorities are already tracking them down. I would rather that we catch your beloved children alive.)

“Harapin na lang nila ‘yung ginawa nilang kawalanghiyaan, sa mata ng husgado, sa mata ng batas,” he added.

(Just let them face their wrongdoing, before the court, before the law.)

Dumapi is currently facing robbery-hold up and possession of deadly weapon charges. /kga
