Still high: Palace shrugs off fall in Duterte’s approval, trust ratings
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has brushed off the decrease in President Rodrigo Duterte’s approval and trust ratings in September.
Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo said in a press briefing on Monday that Duterte’s 78 percent approval rating “is still high” even if its seven percentage points lower than the President’s rating in June.
“The rating is still high. It’s more than 70 percent. So this fluctuates depending on when they get them,” Panelo said.
“If it is taken at the time when there are controversies hounding (him), it may affect the survey results. The fact remains that 70 percent plus (is) still high,” he added.
Earlier Monday, Pulse Asia released in September 2019 survey where Duterte obtained a 78 percent approval rating and 74 percent trust rating, which is an 11 percentage points decline from 85 percent trust rating he got in June. /kga
