MANILA, Philippines— Aside from the usual exposes and exchange of accusations and tirades, Thursday’s hearing at the Senate also provided some comic relief.
Thanks to unexpected funny moments sometimes by Senate probers or resource persons in the hearing of the Senate committee on justice.
Take for instance a resource person who requested the fast-talking Senator Richard Gordon to repeat his question because he could not understand him.
Gordon playfully complied with the request by slowly repeating his question, drawing laughs from the viewers.
At one point, the senator suddenly sang the name of a resource person when it took a while to get the person to talk during the hearing.
Another funny moment was when Senator Panfilo Lacson asked a police officer to come to the table to answer some inquiry.
But when Lacson started asking if the policeman was the one who conducted surveillance or casing operation prior to the questionable drug sting in Pampanga, the cop quickly answered no and said he was absent that day.
The committee chaired by Gordon is investigating the alleged corruption in the Bureau of Corrections and the alleged link of rogue policemen in the illegal drug trade. /jpv
