MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) continues to near the Northern Luzon region as it is expected to make landfall on Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Thursday.

The state weather bureau said the LPA was spotted 790 kilometers east of Casiguran town in Aurora as of 3 p.m. Thursday.

Pagasa said that while the LPA is not expected to intensify into a storm, its trough will bring rain showers to the eastern portion of Northern Luzon starting Friday before it makes a possible landfall on Saturday.

A shallow low-pressure area is also being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), Pagasa added.

The shallow LPA has no direct effect to the country yet but it is expected to enter PAR over the weekend. /je
