Star City was one of the kiddie attractions of the Toys and Gifts Fair at the Philippine Center for International Trade and Exhibitions before it became a separate entity in 1991.
A pioneer amusement park, Star City was built on a 35,000-sqm lot in Pasay City known as the Star City complex which also housed two world-class theaters for the performing arts, as well as the offices and studios of Manila Broadcasting Co. It was operated by Star Parks Corp. of the Elizalde clan.
During Star City’s launching year, visitors numbered 1.3 million, rising to 2 million after three years.
The amusement park boasted an indoor carnival and shopping center, rides for all ages (Giant Star Wheel, Grand Carousel, Star Frisbee and Viking, among others), playgrounds (Little Tykes, Ball Pool), museums (Art Alive Museum, Toy Chest), horror houses, and Snow World which featured ice carvings and a long ice slide.
