Marijuana worth P20.4M destroyed in Cordillera

BAGUIO CITY –– Police burned P20.4 million worth of marijuana in a series of anti-criminality operations in Benguet and Kalinga provinces.

In a belated report, police said marijuana plants and seedlings worth more than P311,000 were destroyed in Bakun town, Benguet on Sept. 26 and 27.

Another P212,000 worth was destroyed in Kibungan town, also in Benguet on Sept. 23 and 24.

In Kalinga, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency destroyed 80,000 marijuana plants and 30 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves in separate operations in Tanudan town on Sept. 23 and Tinglayan town from Sept. 25 to 27.

The operations in Kalinga yielded a total of P19.9 million.

No suspects were arrested in the operations, police said.

In Bontoc town, Mt. Province, an attempt to send two bricks of marijuana hash through a delivery service was foiled when personnel opened a box for checking before delivery on Sept. 25.
