COTABATO CITY, Maguindanao, Philippines — A barangay chairman of Malabang town in Lanao del Sur was shot dead on Friday, Sept. 27, police said.
Capt. Karl Vince Centinaje, chief of the Malabang Municipal Police Station, identified the official as Aksara Marohomsalic Balindong, chairman of Barangay Campo Muslim who also sat as an ex-officio member of the municipal council.
Balindong was walking near a money changer shop at around 5 p.m. in downtown Malabang when attacked, Centinaje said.
He died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police probers found empty shells from a 9-mm pistol at the crime scene.
According to Centinaje, one of the angles probers were looking at was that a family feud — or “rido” — was behind the killing.
Balindong was a former president of Malabang’s Liga ng mga Barangay.
