This Weeks’s Milestones: Sept. 29 to Oct. 5, 2019

Water from Angat Dam, located in Norzagaray in Bulacan province, was released to save 25,000 hectares of rice land in Bulacan and Pampanga province after irrigation supply was cut off in the two Central Luzon provinces for six months due to a long drought.

The National Water Resources Board ordered the National Power Corp. to allocate 20 cubic meters per second  of irrigation water for 10 days until Oct. 9.

The irrigation was extended for another eight days to meet the irrigation target following pressure from farmers and officials in Central Luzon. The reserve in Angat Dam supplies 97 percent of Metro Manila’s water needs.

Some 3,000 Filipino fighters from the provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan and Laguna, led by a certain Manalastas, attacked the British invaders in Manila to support the Spanish forces in its counterattack.

But the Filipinos lacked weapons and were forced to retreat. The Spaniards turned over Manila, Cavite province, and other forts to the British invaders.

Days later, on Oct. 8, Governor General Simon de Anda made Bacolor town in Pampanga the temporary capital of the Philippines and the seat of the Spanish government.
