MANILA, Philippines — A tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) may intensify into a tropical storm within 24 hours, the , Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Friday.
In its 10 a.m. tropical cyclone advisory, Pagasa said the weather disturbance is expected to enter the PAR in 24 to 36 hours.
Pagasa said the tropical depression will be named “Onyok” once inside the PAR.
The weather disturbance was last spotted at 1,410 kilometers east of Visayas and is moving 30 kilometers per hour (kph) west-northwest.
The tropical depression is packing sustained winds of up to 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Pagasa said the tropical depression is less likely to make landfall in the Philippines. /muf
