PNP: Albayalde ready to face Senate hearing on ‘ninja cops’
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde is ready to face the Senate hearing on the alleged “ninja cops” or those involved in the recycling or reselling of seized illegal drugs.
“Nakahanda si PNP Chief, Police General Oscar Albayalde na humarap sa pagdinig ng Senado para bigyan ng linaw ang isyu na diumanoy mayroon pa ring mga tiwaling pulis na pinaghihinalaang may kaugnayan sa iligal na droga,” PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said Friday in a statement.
“The PNP’s internal cleansing will be relentless and will continue on until all rogue cops especially those involved in illegal drugs will be weeded out from the service and charged in court,” Banac quoted Albayalde as saying.
Banac added that Albayalde purposely established the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group to run after these police officers “who have no place in the PNP.”
Senator Richard Gordon, chair of the Senate blue ribbon committee, earlier said Albayalde and the alleged “ninja cops” identified by former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) director and now Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong will be invited to appear before the Senate. /muf
