2 jail guards injured after ‘commotion’ in Pasay City Jail — BJMP

MANILA, Philippines — Two jail guards were wounded after inmates became rowdy inside their jail cell on Thursday afternoon, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.

In a text message, BJMP spokesperson Jail Chief Insp. Xavier Solda identified the victims as Jail Officer 1 Jeremy Addawe and Jail Officer 1 Jessie Boy Alverio.

Solda said the wounds were not critical, noting that the jail guards were rushed to the hospital.

“Hindi naman kritikal yung mga sugat. Safe naman ng ginagamot ang aming mga personnel,” Solda said.

(The wounds were not critical. The jail guards are now safe. They were given medical treatment.)

Solda said the commotion erupted after 12 inmates refused to be transferred to another facility. Solda explained that the inmates used broken monoblock chairs and parts of a water dispenser to hit the jail officers. /je
