Village chairman gunned down in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY — A village chairman was shot and killed by a still unidentified gunman in Tiaong town in Quezon province on Wednesday night, police said.

Ildefonso Belda, 55, Barangay Behia captain, was standing in front of his friend’s house in Sitio (sub-village) Silangan when the assailant, armed with a still unknown gun caliber,  suddenly appeared and repeatedly shot him around 8:30 p.m., Colonel Audie Madrideo, Quezon police chief, said in a report.

The gunman fled on foot after the shooting.

The victim was taken to the United Candelaria Doctors Hospital in nearby Candelaria town for emergency treatment.

He was later transferred to the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City but died while undergoing treatment.
