COTABATO CITY — Police in Parang town, Maguindanao on Tuesday detained a physician facing 26 counts of cybercrime cases in a Zamboanga City court.
Dr. Chao-Tiao II New Yumol of Lamitan City in Basilan, was detained at the Parang police custodial facility after he surrendered to the Bangsamoro regional police, following a string of cybercrime charges filed against him in Zamboanga City court, according to Lt. Col. Ibrahim Jambiran, chief of Parang police.
Jambiran said Yumol had been charged with violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 for allegedly maligning on social media some prominent Lamitan personalities who pressed charges against him.
In his Facebook post, Yumol accused these prominent Lamitan personalities of corruption and involvement in illegal drugs trade.
Judge Gregorio Dela Peña III of the Regional Trial Court Branch 12 in Zamboanga City issued 26 warrants for Yumol’s arrest on September 19.
Each of the warrant recommended an P80,000 bail bond, or a total of P2.08 million worth of bail bond for his temporary liberty.
Jambiran said Yumol was turned over to the Parang police for booking procedures and eventual turn over to a court in Zamboanga City. “We will turn him over to the court that issued the warrants for his arrest,” Jambiran said. /lzb
