Twin quakes jolt Surigao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines–Two quakes struck minutes apart off Cagwait town in Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

At 10:34 p.m., a 4.6 magnitude quake occurred 50 kilometers northeast of Cagwait at a shallow depth of 15 km.

After 12 minutes, a 4.2 quake was recorded and it centered 58 kilometers northeast of Cagwait at a depth of 7 km.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the twin quakes.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
