1 killed, 2 hurt as firetruck rams pedicab
The driver of a “kuliglig” (motorized pedicab) was killed and his passengers were wounded when his pedicab was rammed by a rushing firetruck in Binondo, Manila, on Friday afternoon.
Police said the kuliglig driver, Edward Dacasid, of Sampaloc, Manila, was killed on the spot while passenger Mary Rose Abiva, 22, and Dacasid’s “back-rider” Marcos Siguan, 29, were injured and rushed to the Philippine General Hospital where they remained confined on Saturday.
Fire volunteer Joven Go, 31, a businessman from Sto. Cristo, Binondo, who was driving the truck, is facing complaints of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and two counts of serious physical injuries, police told reporters on Saturday.
The volunteer firetruck was rushing to Caloocan and was counterflowing traffic on Reina Regente St. to get to C.M. Recto Avenue, when it rammed into the pedicab going toward Plaza Lorenzo Ruiz.
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim had banned “kuligligs” from plying major roads in the city.
