Former Bohol mayor found guilty of graft

MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan Third Division has found former San Isidro, Bohol, Mayor Requillo Samuya guilty of graft for his involvement in the irregular purchase of several kilograms of soil activator.

The purchases did not undergo public bidding, the antigraft court found.

The antigraft court sentenced Samuya to a prison term of six years and one month as minimum, and up to 10 years as maximum.

He was also disqualified from holding public office.

Also convicted was Akame Marketing International representative Edilbero Apostol, who remains at large.

The case stemmed from  the purchase of 812.5 kilos of NBEM-21 Microaid Activator for P975,000 without  public bidding. —Patricia Denise M. Chiu
