MANILA, Philippines—A tribal chieftain was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen on board two motorcycles in Agusan del Sur Friday, police said Saturday.
Superintendent Martin Gamba, spokesperman of the Caraga regional police, identified the victim as Rosbert Havana Coguit,38, from Purok 4, Barangay (village) Panagangan, La Paz, Agusan del Sur.
He said that the municipal police of La Paz received the report of the shooting incident at 8:35 a.m. Friday.
Investigations revealed that Coguit went to 3L’s Hardware, owned by a certain Engr Lisondra, to buy nails and plywood when he was shot three times by two male suspects on board separate motorcycles, resulting to his instantaneous death Gamba said.
He said that three spent shells and two live ammunitions of caliber .45 pistol, one empty shell and one live ammunition of calibre 9 milimeter were recovered from the crime scene.
In a nearby forested area, police recovered the two motorcycles allegedly used by the gunmen–a black Honda TMX 155 model bearing plate number 8392 IA, and a blue Honda Wave bearing plate number 9415 LO, he said.
Investigation was on going to know the motive for the killing and find the suspects, Gamba said.
