FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City –– A cadet in his first year at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) died on Wednesday (Sept. 18) while undergoing treatment after reportedly vomiting profusely on Tuesday night (Sept. 17), according to various sources.
The PMA has not released details about the demise of plebe Darwin Dormitorio pending an investigation.
But an insider on Thursday (Sept. 19) said Dormitorio had been admitted at the PMA Hospital two weeks ago for stomach ailments.
He was discharged and had rejoined the cadets when he was again rushed back to the hospital on or before Tuesday dinner. Cadets take supper at 5 p.m.
Dormitorio, who is from Mindanao, belonged to PMA Class of 2023. The class was incorporated into the corps of cadets in July. That was the time he and 389 other members of the class first wore their cadet uniforms.
Dormitorio was due to undergo his ceremonial recognition rite along with the class.
“PMA assures the public that every cadet’s overall well-being is constantly and systematically being considered in every aspect of education and training,” said Maj. Reynan Afan, chief of the academy’s public information office. /lzb
