LUCENA CITY –– At least 12 convicts from Quezon province were released through the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law, but two of them had died, police said Wednesday.

Major Elizabeth Capistrano, information officer of the Quezon police, said three of the freed convicts were residents of Mauban town, two from Lopez town, one from Tiaong, one from General Luna, one from General Nakar, one from San Francisco, and one from San Andres.

Two convicts from Tiaong town and the island town of Polillo had died before President Duterte issued his surrender order.

Colonel Audie Madrideo, Quezon police chief, ordered the chiefs of police in the province’s 39 towns and two cities to intensify the hunt for other convicts from the province who were recipients of GCTA law.

“Guidelines and protocols are strictly to be followed and observed on the custody of released heinous crime convicts wherein human rights shall be observed at all times,” Madrideo said in his order.
