Murder convicts surrender in Cavite, Batangas

SAN PEDRO CITY –– More heinous crime convicts surrendered to authorities as the deadline set by President Duterte for them to yield loomed.

In Silang, Cavite, a convicted murderer was accompanied by his family when he turned himself in to the police around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

A report from the Calabarzon police on Wednesday said the convict was found guilty in September 1995 of two counts of murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder. He was released from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City on June 24 through the Good Conduct Time Allowance law.

In Batangas City, two convicts also surrendered separately to members of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on September 9.

The first one, a 55-year-old, was convicted of rape in 2015 and was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was released on March 1 last year./lzb

The second, 36, was convicted of murder in June 2017 and was meted with a maximum sentence of 17 years of imprisonment.
