2 killed, 14 hurt in Quezon City road accident

MANILA, Philippines — Two passengers died while 14 others were injured after a truck crashed into a jeepney along Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City on early Wednesday morning.

Initial investigation showed that the jeepney was traversing Mindanao Avenue and was about to make a U-turn at a gasoline station in Barangay Tandang Sora when a truck emerged from Congressional Avenue and hit the jeepney’s right side portion at around 12:30 a.m.

Sixteen passengers of the jeepney driven by 50-year-old Lewelyn Jaud were seriously injured and brought to the East Avenue Medical Center, said a report of the Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Two of the 16 injured passengers, Jay Pamplina and Mark Bernardo, died in the hospital.

Fourteen victims were still confined at the hospital. Police have yet to identify the passengers.

Meanwhile, police said Herjun Panero, 31, driver of the Isuzu Cargo Truck, will face a complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property with multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries.
