MANILA, Philippines—The low pressure area (LPA) east of the country developed into Tropical Depression “Nimfa” on Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, its center was estimated at 640 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes provinces. It packed maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
As Nimfa remains almost stationary, its trough or extension will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera region and Ilocos region, Pagasa said.
The weather bureau is also monitoring a low pressure area spotted 95 km west of Iba, Zambales province.
This weather system, along with the southwest monsoon, will bring monsoon rains over Central Luzon, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro provinces on Wednesday.
Cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Bicol region, Western Visayas and the rest of Calabarzon and Mimaropa, also due to the southwest monsoon.
