MANILA, Philippines—President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday vowed to fast track the release of sick and elderly prisoners in the wake of controversies on the release of heinous crimes convicts because of “good conduct.”
“I’ll ask the administration, whoever will take over or the SOJ (Secretary of Justice) to fast track ‘yung mga sakit na, at talagang matatanda na,” Duterte told reporters in Malacañang.
Duterte argued that sick and elderly inmates cannot do criminal acts anymore as their body would no longer cooperate.
“70 years old or 75, 70, hindi na marunong mag hold up yan, hindi na makatakbo ‘yan. O kung takot ka pa kay serial rapist, paputol mo na lang diyan sa foundry nila bago palabasin,” he said.
The President also lamented how criminals jailed for a very long time acquired “latent homosexuality.”
“Karamihan nila ayaw nang umalis kasi may mga lovers na yan sila sa loob. Saka yan, ‘yang lumabas na 30, 25 years, hindi na maghanap ng babae yan. They have acquired latent homosexuality,” Duterte said.
“Wala na yan silang desire makipag halikan ng babae. Ang gusto nya, yung iniwan niya and that is I said they have acquired latent homosexuality,” he added.
