MANILA, Philippines – The southwest monsoon or “habagat” and the trough (extended region) of a low-pressure area (LPA) will affect most parts of the country on Tuesday, the state weather bureau said.
Monsoon rains are expected in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan and the Mindoro provinces, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 4 a.m. weather forecast.
The Bicol region, the rest of Central Luzon, Calabarzon , Mimaropa and Western Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms also due to southwest monsoon.
Pagasa advised residents in affected areas to watch out for possible flashfloods and landslides.
Aside from the southwest monsoon, Pagasa is also monitoring two LPAs inside the Philippine area of responsibility
One of the LPAs was last spotted 715 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, while the other was spotted 130 kilometers west southwest of Iba, Zambales
It said that the trough of the LPAs will affect Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos region, where cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said that Mindanao and the rest of Visayas would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms. /gsg
