4.5-magnitude quake hits Surigao del Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck Surigao del Norte on Monday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Phivolcs, the tremor hit 27 kilometers (km) northeast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte, at 5:56 p.m.

The quake of tectonic origin was 27 km deep, Phivolcs added.

No damage or aftershocks may be expected to emanate from the temblor, Phivolcs said.  /kga
