MANILA, Philippines — An Indian national who was banned from the Philippines was arrested by authorities in Boracay for working without a proper visa.
The Bureau of Immigration had already blacklisted 42-year-old Vincent Joseph Mondal for overstaying, immigration intelligence officer June Hinolan said in a statement issued on Sunday.
But Mondal was able to reenter the country through a “backdoor” of the airport.
“He is an illegal entrant as he did not undergo inspection by immigration authorities when he last arrived in the country,” Hinolan said.
Mondal was able to get a job as the chief cook at the Namaste Indian Restaurant in Boracay.
Last Sept. 4, immigration agents traced Mondal there, according to Fortunato Manahan Jr., chief of the Immigration Intelligence Division.
Unable to present supporting documents for his employment, he was arrested for overstaying and being an undocumented alien.
Mondal was taken to the BI detention center in Taguig City pending his deportation.
