Pajo NH retains Shakey’s V-League crown
THE VOLLEYBELLES of Pajo National High School made it two in a row as they captured the title in the 9th Shakey’s Girls V-League with a straight-sets victory over vaunted rivals University of Southern Philippines Foundation in the finals yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.
With the leadership of head coach Fr. Rolando T. Manayon and the stellar play of stalwarts Gretchel Soltones, Lovely Murillo, Danica Molina and Michelle Arce, Pajo proved to be too much to handle for USPF as it won, 25-16, 25-10, 25-6.
The title was Pajo’s second in a row. More importantly, it nabbed them a slot in the Tournament of Champions, a tournament pitting the best girls high school volleyball teams against one another. It is slated in Davao City in March 2012.
Earlier in the day, Pajo booked a slot in the finals with a convincing, 25-4, 25-10, 25-8 win over the Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School in the semifinals.
In the other pairing, USPF eked past the gritty St. Theresa’s College in a thrilling five-set encounter, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20,15-25, 15-10. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
