DSWD researchers to be deployed in Bicol to identify poor households

LEGAZPI CITY — Close to 3,000 field researchers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) would be deployed in six provinces in Bicol to identify and assess poor households in the region, an agency official said on Saturday.

Jesseshan Marbella-Aycocho, DSWD Bicol spokesperson, said 2,600 field staff are currently undergoing training before field work starts in October.

For this third poor household assessment, the agency targets 1.1 million subjects in Bicol out of the 16.1 million households nationwide.

Aycocho said in 2015, the second assessment indicated that out of the 1.08 million Bicol households surveyed, 372,451 households were identified as poor.

The third household assessment that would end in December is under the agency’s  Listahanan Program, an information management system that identifies who and where the poor are in the country.

It serves as a reference by different agencies in the implementation of their programs and services for the poor and marginalized sectors. /jpv
