PAGADIAN CITY— After suggesting that the next Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief should be a killer, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go now suggests that drug convicts who play sick should be given poisoned intravenous (IV) fluids.
During the ongoing Senate probe on BuCor, spawned by questionable releases of convicts on good conduct credits, it was revealed that drug convicts feigned illness so they can be admitted in the hospital where they are free to do their drug trading activities through mobile phones.
The decision to have someone confined to the hospital, the Senate hearings uncovered, were also attended with corruption.
Speaking to reporters here after opening a Malasakit Center, his pet program, Go said that the New Bilibid Prison Hospital has become the drug convicts’ platform to close illicit transactions outside.
“They make their calls in the hospital,” he said, lamenting that the national penitentiary has become an embodiment of the things that President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to stamp out: drugs, corruption, and criminality.
“Hospitals are for sick people. For convicted drug lords who wanted to be admitted (as a ruse to transact illicit business), they should not be treated, but instead, poisoned so that they end up in the morgue,” Go said in the Bisaya vernacular. /kga
