DAGUPAN CITY –– Ten months after he was released from prison through the Good Conduct Time Allowance or GCTA law, a convict voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Ilocos Sur on Thursday afternoon.

The convict, a resident of Barangay Licungan in Sugpon town, Ilocos Sur, turned himself in to the Sugpon town police station at 3 p.m.

He said he was willing to return to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) after hearing about President Duterte’s order issued to close to 2,000 freed convicts under the GCTA law.

Mr. Duterte asked the freed convicts to surrender and register with the BuCor or be considered fugitives from the law.

Gatong-O was convicted of violating the Dangerous Drugs Act but was released from the National Bilibid Prison on November 14, 2018.

He is still under the custody of the Sugpon police station./lzb
