Another village chair shot dead in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY –– A 60-year-old village head in Cagayan province was shot and killed by two motorcycle-riding gunmen on Friday morning.

Police Capt. Sharon Mallillin, Cagayan provincial police spokesperson, said Remegio Dela Cruz, village chair of Bugnay in Tuao town was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

Investigators said Dela Cruz was driving his car when he was attacked and killed by two unidentified assailants who wore jackets and helmets at 8:45 a.m.

Police had yet to identify the motive behind the attack but were looking into the nature of Dela Cruz’s job as a village head.

Investigators were also not discounting personal grudge as a possible motive.

Dela Cruz was the second village head killed after the May 2019 elections in Tuao town.
