Heavy rains prod officials to suspend classes in various Mindanao localities

Classes were suspended Friday, Sept. 13, in at least five Mindanao localities due to heavy rains spawned by Tropical Depression “Marilyn.”

The suspensions covered elementary and high school levels, and in both private and public schools.

In General Santos City, Mayor Ronnel Rivera ordered the class suspension, while Mayor Vic Paul Salarda handed the decision for Alabel, Sarangani.

In Zamboanga del Sur, San Miguel town by Mayor Angelito Martinez III declared the class suspension, while Mayor Tirsendo Poloyapoy in Tabina, and Mayor James Yecyec in Pitogo.

Martinez also ordered that students already on their campuses should not be allowed to leave the school premises unless they are fetched by their parents./lzb
