Budget cut on DepEd program questioned

/ 01:47 AM September 13, 2019

MANILA, Philippines–The Department of Education (DepEd) said it would move to restore the nearly P1-billion cut from a program providing subsidies to more than 1 million senior high school students.

The DepEd originally proposed P52 billion to fund the program for 2020, but the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) allocated P31.18 billion.

DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said she was in talks with the DBM and Congress to “ensure the continuity of the program.” —MATTHEW REYSIO-CRUZ
